A Year Later: What Have We Actually Done?

Last Thursday, I was honored to be asked to moderate a conversation with Glennon Sweeney, a Senior Research Associate at Ohio State’s Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity. The event, entitled “Understanding Inequality in Metropolitan Neighborhoods,” was sponsored by the Grandview Heights Public Library in partnership with Grandview Heights Public Schools. Those who attended learned a great deal from our guest about the historical policies that shaped the Grandview we know today. The conversation also provided a reckoning, without mincing words, about what we must do in the present if we truly care about diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism. The conversation touched on a range of policy areas, from housing to policing to schools.

Welcome to GAIN

On June 8th, 2020, I posted a simple message in a Grandview community group. I was curious if there were any diversity, equity, and inclusion groups in Grandview. After a short time, it gained over 100 comments. A couple things were clear: there were no community groups as of yet, there were plenty of people interested, and we had to do something.
